The Life of Jesus Christ, OVERVIEW #6<\/span><\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

JESUS<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

Jesus was sent to confirm everything that had been written about God, as well as what the prophets had said. And not only would He confirm those things, He would fulfill all the rest of the messianic prophecies that people were wondering about (Matthew 5:17-18<\/b>).<\/span><\/p>\n

The birth of Jesus is described in the Gospel of John as something extraordinarily strange and special:\u00a0\u201cThe Word [of God] became human and lived here on earth among us\u201d<\/span><\/em><\/span>\u00a0(John 1:14<\/b>). Jesus wouldn\u2019t just say all the right things;<\/span><\/p>\n

He could actually show us what God is like. Jesus spent about 33 years on earth, but he was involved in public ministry for only three of them. He worked primarily among a dozen disciples to teach them and prepare them to carry on after He was gone.<\/span><\/p>\n

He got a lot of attention for His public miracles and healings and began to draw a crowd wherever He went. He also began to attract the attention and derision of the religious leaders of His time, who were threatened by the acclaim He received from the masses of people.<\/span><\/p>\n

He eventually was convicted by a Roman court (fueled by accusations and misinformation from His opponents) and was crucified. The religious leaders knew Jesus had foretold His own resurrection, and they took every precaution to prevent it.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Gospels record their failure, because the resurrected Jesus was seen on no less than ten separate occasions before His final appearance when He ascended into heaven before the eyes of His disciples. (These events are documented in the No-Brainer\u2019s Guide to Jesus, so we won\u2019t go into further detail here.)<\/span><\/p>\n

But among Jesus\u2019 final teachings was a promise that even though He would soon be returning to His Father, He would not leave His followers alone and helpless. He assured them of the coming of\u00a0\u201canother Counselor\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/em><\/span>(John 14:16<\/b>).<\/span><\/p>\n

JESUS CALLS US<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

\"JesusCecil Frances Alexander<\/span>\u00a0(1818\u20131895<\/b>) was always a poet. She began writing poems at the age of nine. When Cecil was thirty-two, she married William Alexander, a parish minister in an impoverished rural area of northern Ireland. She loved the people.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cFrom one house to another, from one bed of sickness to another, from one sorrow to another she went,\u201d<\/b>\u00a0wrote one historian. Another said,\u00a0\u201cDay after day she rode over the wet moorlands in all weathers, carrying food, warm clothing, medical supplies to the impoverished and sick.\u201d<\/b>\u00a0She especially loved children, and most of her hymns were written for them.<\/span><\/p>\n

Two that are well known are\u00a0\u201cAll Things Bright and Beautiful\u201d<\/span><\/strong><\/em><\/span>\u00a0(May 5<\/b>) and\u00a0\u201cOnce in Royal David\u2019s City\u201d<\/span><\/strong><\/em><\/span>\u00a0(December 12<\/b>).\u00a0\u201cJesus Calls Us\u201d<\/span><\/strong><\/em><\/span>\u00a0was one of the few hymns she wrote for adults, and it illustrates her ability to apply Scripture forcefully and devotionally. She wrote the hymn at her husband\u2019s request, to accompany a sermon he was preaching about the calling of Andrew by Jesus on the shores of Galilee.<\/span><\/p>\n

Hymn Jesus Calls Us!<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Jesus calls us; o\u2019er the tumult<\/span>
\nOf our life\u2019s wild, restless sea,<\/span>
\nDay by day His sweet voice soundeth,<\/span>
\nSaying,\u00a0\u201cChristian, follow Me.\u201d<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

Jesus calls us from the worship<\/span>
\nOf the vain world\u2019s golden store,<\/span>
\nFrom each idol that would keep us,<\/span>
\nSaying,\u00a0\u201cChristian, love Me more.\u201d<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

In our joys and in our sorrows,<\/span>
\nDays of toil and hours of ease,<\/span>
\nStill He calls in cares and pleasures,<\/span>
\n\u201cChristian, love Me more than these.\u201d<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

Jesus calls us: by Thy mercies,<\/span>
\nSavior, may we hear Thy call,<\/span>
\nGive our hearts to Thine obedience,<\/span>
\nServe and love Thee best of all.<\/span><\/p>\n

There are so many people in this world, who Loved Jesus Christ, and for some to say, they do not believe in Him and that He never lived on this earth, it is so sad. Cecil loved Jesus and you can tell she did by her Hymn!<\/span><\/p>\n
