Why You Don’t Want God to Answer Every\u00a0Prayer

Dear Lord, even if I pray in faith and dot all the i\u2019s and cross all the t\u2019s, but am\u00a0praying\u00a0something which I will regret forever and which is not what You have planned, please ignore me. Thank you for hearing this\u00a0prayer!<\/span>
\nThree men in the Bible\u2013really godly men, the best of the bunch\u2013prayed at one time or other for the Lord to end their lives.<\/span>
\n\u2013Moses in\u00a0Numbers 11:15\u00a0\u201cIf I\u2019ve found favor in Thy sight, please kill me.\u201d<\/span>
\n\u2013Elijah in I Kings 19:4\u00a0\u201cThat\u2019s enough now, Lord. Take my life. I\u2019m no better than my fathers (and they\u2019re all dead).\u201d\u00a0My paraphrase.<\/span>
\n\u2013Jonah in\u00a0Jonah 4:3\u00a0\u201cDeath is better to me than life, so please take my life from me, O Lord.\u201d<\/span>
\nIn each case, it was a\u00a0prayer\u00a0of depression and discouragement. And what caused that? \u00a0They were brought on by:<\/span>
\n\u2013Too much responsibility (Moses). He was tired.<\/span>
\n\u2013Too much opposition (Elijah). He was stressed.<\/span>
\n\u2013Too little commitment (Jonah). He was disappointed.<\/span>
\nFrom this we conclude the following:<\/span>
\n1. It can happen to the best.<\/span>
\n2. It\u2019s the result of too much work, stress, spiritual resources and strength.<\/span>
\n3. In such times, we may do unwise things and pray foolish\u00a0prayers.<\/span>
\n4. We should give thanks God does not answer all our\u00a0prayers.<\/span>
\n5. Let us praise a loving, wise God who gives us…<\/span>
\n\u2013Not what we ask for but what we need.<\/span>
\n\u2013Not what we want, but what He wills.<\/span>
\n\u2013Not what pleases us for the moment but what we will appreciate forever.<\/span>
\n\u201cGod is too wise to be mistaken, too good to be unkind. When you don\u2019t understand, when you don\u2019t see His plan, when you can\u2019t trace His hand, trust His heart.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
