God is our ever-present companion&#8211;guiding and protecting, comforting and convicting us, but we are often unaware of Him&#8230;<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\"><strong><span class=\"il\">Prayer<\/span>\u00a0is our means of acknowledging God\u2019s presence and seeking His help on our daily journey.\u00a0<\/strong>It is God\u2019s way of giving us access to Him. He commands us to pray because He knows that we need Him. We need His redemption, His guidance, His courage, His forgiveness, His sustenance, His peace. He knows that we need what He has&#8211;that we have no where else to turn!&#8230;<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\"><strong>In heeding God\u2019s command to pray, we become part of a humbling and powerful collaboration:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: left;\">\n<li><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\"><em>God\u00a0<\/em>hears us and answers us. He\u2019s calling us to receive something\u00a0<em>from\u00a0<\/em>Him&#8211;something we need: His light for our daily journey.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\"><strong>We, sojourners, have Jesus as our light and the Holy Spirit as our guide&#8230;<\/strong>We are not traveling alone. The presence and the power of the Triune God are ours.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">We\u2019ve all had the experience of carefully relying on a map or GPS to navigate a complicated route to a new place. Then, gradually, with repeated trips on the same road, we don\u2019t need to rely on navigational tools. We have internalized the map. It has become part of us. We know the way.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">The same thing happens with\u00a0<span class=\"il\">prayer<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\"><span class=\"il\">Prayer<\/span>\u00a0should not be a formula but a pattern &#8211;\u00a0<strong>not a chain but a path<\/strong>&#8211;to help you as you make your way.\u00a0<strong>God uses well-established spiritual disciplines to guide us<\/strong>\u00a0when our emotions run thin and our motivations are weak. Every Christian is prayerless in some, perhaps many, seasons of life. Like any frequently traveled path, a path of\u00a0<span class=\"il\">prayer<\/span>\u00a0allows our faltering steps to progress, even if our hearts are not fully engaged. Often, the heart is sparked by the comforting routine of\u00a0<span class=\"il\">prayer<\/span>, courage is restored, joy eventually returns.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\"><strong>We are all, gradually, moving toward hard times in life,\u00a0<\/strong>if we haven\u2019t gone through them already. You won\u2019t learn to pray in the emergency room&#8211;that\u2019s where you\u2019ll speechlessly lean into Jesus. You won\u2019t learn to pray in your overturned car&#8211;that\u2019s where you\u2019ll just cry out His name.
